Fraysen Systems’ product ProcessPlus is a unique, patented engine which integrates detailed, real-time manufacturing data with the client’s operational and business level information systems to give a seamless view from the shop floor to the enterprise. By extending the ISO’s Process Specification Language down to the level of ‘events’, ProcessPlus can record production activities as they happen, and bind detailed data to them from many sources -- machines, test equipment, operators and other information systems -- to create a permanent, richly connected record.
Because it is representable in Semantic Web technologies such as RDF and OWL, this record can be searched in ways never before possible, and can be integrated with data from ERP, MES and other enterprise system to give a seamless view of the operation, leading to what Fraysen Systems calls “Pervasive Manufacturing Intelligence”.
Pervasive Manufacturing Intelligence (PMI) will bring Web 2.0 to the manufacturing desktop. By bringing their data onto the Semantic Web, PMI technologies will allow users to graphically browse their process, create live graphs and tables of key data and drop them into Personal Information Portals, Wikis and Blogs. Collaboration based on shared, trusted information will greatly simplify the job of operations managers, allowing them to wring higher levels of performance out of their existing processes. PMI will revolutionise the jobs of Manufacturing Engineers. Inference Engines will enable Engineers to quickly spot correlations, trends and excursions. This, together with universal, ubiquitous access to performance data on the semantic intranet will bring many of today’s intractable problems within the scope of Six Sigma and Lean improvement methodologies, removing the barriers holding them back from step changes in performance.
