People Just Aren’t Good at Noticing Things!

I hope you will get a laugh from this week’s post, while it also illustrates a point I have been returning to from time to time: people just aren’t good at noticing things!

I was honored to be invited to speak to the North Carolina Executive Roundtable recently. My topic, which generated great discussion, was “Big Data: When Eyewitnesses Are Not Enough.” I was lucky enough to be able to use this video by author and magician Richard Wiseman to illustrate just how unobservant we all are — even when we are trying very, very hard! I think you will find it very convincing!

So I can’t trust my own eyes, and I can’t reasonably expect to trust what the people working in my organization think they saw. What can I do about it? That’s where Big Data comes in. More next week!
Cheers,
