Becoming Lean: what is required?

We are drowning in data, not information
- Gartner Group

Background:

Manufacturers today are not only expected to produce high volume, but produce a high mix of products. In order to efficiently manage constant changes in the process, and achieve performance goals with minimal waste, the manufacturer needs to be able to make fast, accurate and effective decisions.
World Class Efficiency levels stand at 85% yet most manufacturers struggle to achieve an average of 45-60% efficiencies. To combat this, initiatives including Six Sigma, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA), Cycle Time Management, Preventive and Predictive Maintenance are being implemented.
However, the expected results are still not being realised. In theory, initiatives such as Six Sigma and OEE work, yet in practice, there is a gap between what should be achieved, and what is being achieved. This gap is due to the lack of accurate, actionable information to be applied to these initiatives.

So how are Lean goals realized?

Lack of information, combined with increased process complexity is a key reason for Manufacturers' falling short of their Performance goals. Fraysen Systems' unique approach to eradicating these bottlenecks involves transferring maximum task responsibility to the people adding value to the product on the line, and tracing every problem, once discovered, back to its ultimate cause. Fraysen Systems takes away ambiguity and replaces it with accurate fact about what is happening, why it is happening and how it can be solved and/or improved.
This approach is fundamental to the achievement of lean goals because manufacturers now have the information necessary to gain expertise in their process management and leverage this towards World Class Efficiency levels.
